Day of Slavic Writing and Culture

On 20 May 2015, Russian Centre of Science and Culture in New Delhi marked the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture. On that occasion, the exhibition “Saints Cyril and Methodius Equal to the Apostles – the Creators of Slavonic Script” was inaugurated, a lecture dedicated to Cyril and Methodius was held, and a multimedia presentation and documentary film on this subject were presented.

Upon request of the Organizer, a representative of the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia, Ms. Danijela Matijaš, informed the audience of the significance of the work of Cyril and Methodius for the development of the Serbian script and culture, as well as of the historical ties between the Serbian and Russian language and culture. She also spoke about the influence of Sanskrit on Slavic languages, including Serbian, emphasizing some of the interesting examples of common words that can be found in the modern Serbian and Hindi.
